Help me give my students tactile numbers and letters, write on/wipe off prewriting and sight word cards, and Wikki Stix to help strengthen their writing skills.
My homebase is made up of 18 students, but the entire first grade (56 students) mixes with each other during various parts of the day. My students are enthusiastic about learning and love hands-on experiences. Our school is an open-design, Title I school. Students are chosen by way of a lottery, drawing from all portions of the city, which allows for a mix of socioeconomic levels to be represented.
I believe every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and successful in my classroom.
We do community circles and other community building activities to help accomplish this. Students also learn about life skills like caring and honesty and how to put those skills to use.
My Project
The write on/wipe off cards will allow students to practice fine motor skills and letters, words and numbers without using multiple pieces of paper. The Wikki Stix and the Wikki Stix practice cards will be used for students to practice the correct formation of letters, numbers and shapes while developing fine motor skills. The Draw and Write Cards and the Write-abouts Story Starters and Silly Sentence Cards will encourage students to write more and more thoughtfully as they give ideas for writing.
Some of my students need to strengthen their fine motor skills in order to correctly form letters and numbers, and others need to strengthen their writing skills in the way of spelling and grammar.
The materials I have selected will help students strengthen these skills for mostly writing, but they will also help develop skills for reading and math.
