My students need the "A Place for Everyone Classroom Carpet". This carpet has 30 vibrantly colored squares which will designate seating spaces for my writing center.
In Room 1 we "write long and strong" across all curricular areas. We have started a new K-5 writing program, and the great thing about this new program is that it breaks down the writing process into manageable, logically sequenced chunks.
My students are an amazing mix of little people: English learners; future scientists, mathematicians, and writers; sports fanatics; artists and artisans; friends and allies.
All my students are at different levels and learn at their own unique pace, but all are part of a school community of engaged and interested learners who love and support each other. Our school is a K-5, Title 1 school. We serve approximately 400 students, offer Second Chance Breakfast, support a K-5 Response to Intervention reading program, and promote a safe environment for learning where individual needs are met and unique qualities are celebrated.
An area rug in my room will help create an alternate space for students to learn. In the 21st Century teaching and learning environment students must have a variety of spaces in which to collaborate, read independently, and research. Additionally, students when seated on the carpet for focused mini-lessons, Number Talks, and Writer's Workshop must have their own space. The "A Place for Everyone Classroom Carpet", with its 30 vibrantly colored squares, will provide ample space for students to transition to and from the carpet area as well as help students learn interpersonal space boundaries during collaboration and conferencing.
21st century teaching and learning looks different than the traditional classroom.
Students are not facing forward, looking at the teacher their little square desks for 6 hours a day. Students must have space to collaborate, conference, "look back", and engage. Centers for learning must be flexible throughout the lesson and the day. This "Place for Everyone Classroom Carpet" will provide that space and assist my young learners in organizing their body space and ease transition time.Read More
