My Project
This year my students wish to follow in the footsteps of their class role model Mari Copeny. This young activist inspired my students to use their writing to change the world around them after reading her letter to President Barack Obama. In her letter Mari highlighted the challenges her community was experiencing in Flint, Michigan with the lack of clean water. It is from this reading experience my students came up with the idea to help each classroom in our school to have clean air. We researched which plants would best do the job. Then we made a list of all the resources we would need. Finally, we did a shared writing of the letter to our Donors- You!
Dear Donors, we need soil, flower pots, pens and markers for our project.
We want to give every class in our school a plant to help keep the air clean. But... We need your help! Can you kindly donate to our project so we can get all the things we need. We need pens and markers to make posters for the plant drive to ask people to donate plant cuttings. We need pots and soil to plant the cuttings before donating to each class. We appreciate your generosity and hope you can help us make our project a success. Thank you!
