My Students

"Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation."— John F. Kennedy

I am fortunate to teach fourth grade at a school located in the valley of the Wasatch Mountains, in beautiful Utah.

Seventy-eight students visit my classroom each day for literacy, math, and science, all ranging different levels of ability.

Our district has provided our elementary school with reading, writing, and math instructional programs that motivate and engage our students with text as well as online tools (i.e. interactive lessons, games, and digital books) to help transform the total educational experience. I would like to provide my students with an environment that inspires, motivates, and encourages them.

My Project

Writing for different purposes means writing for different audiences. Students must understand the role of audience in writing, therefore, it is essential to design writing activities that naturally lend themselves to different audiences. Writing is an essential skill definitely benefiting students for the rest of their lives. Introducing and practicing writing with engaging activities in elementary school, can foster confidence and a lifelong love of writing.

My students need to be empowered to write with a meaningful purpose for a real audience.

My class needs to experience digital citizenship within a secure environment, creating portfolios built to share across classes, demonstrating growth year-over-year. Parents need to enjoy and celebrate their children's achievements throughout their academic journey. For these reasons, and more, I am asking for a subscription to "Kidblog", for safe student publishing.

I am also requesting "52 Essential Conversations: The Life Skills Card Game for Age 5 to Adults". This 100+ questions in 52 cards, builds 21st century skills in social emotional learning, critical thinking, mindfulness, self-confidence, empathy, character education, executive function, and critical consciousness. 52 Essential Conversations is the 2018 Parents' Choice Award winner, featured by Harvard University to support the developmental and emotional needs of children, tweens, and teens from K-12.
