This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Was writing a struggle for you when you were a child? After teaching for 30 years, I can attest that writing is a true obstacle for almost every kid. Each year that passes, I see the children's writing ability decline because they lack motivation. Children struggle to start a story and have problems writing details.

However, when they write about a painting they create, ideas flow freely.

For example, when kids paint a sunset with a lone tree, they can immediately begin writing about their painting. Soon they are telling a story that has to do with a lone tree at sunset.

Giving the kids watercolors and watercolor paper is so worth it because art is a stealthy way to motivate the kids to write. Anything that promotes good writing is a gift that lasts a life time.
