Help me give my students an ultra-powerful organizational tool--a binder. Binders are an expensive but essential tool for students to keep track of their materials and keep in touch with their growth as learners.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"You write in order to change the world... if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change it." James Baldwin
Ninth grade English introduces students to the power of the written word.
In my class, students read literature that has changed the world and develop their own skills as writers who make waves. Given my students' identities--most are from Central and South America and many will be first-generation college students--it is especially important that my students' voices are elevated.
My Project
Help 9th grade English and creative writing students stay organized by purchasing binders.
It may seem simple, but binders are an indispensable tool for high school students.
By keeping their short stories, essays with feedback, and data trackers all in one place, students can keep track of their progress toward learning goals.
As a mastery-based school, it is particularly important that students have access to personal growth indicators and reference materials like models and rubrics--rather than just to the grades in the grade book.
When teaching low-income students, I try to relieve the burden that a long list of annual school supplies puts on families. Nevertheless, my students deserve all the supplies that students elsewhere come to school with. Help provide a simple but essential item for future writers!
