This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from the largest school district in the state of Connecticut.
We are also one of the largest schools in our district.
Most of my students live below the poverty line, in environments that are not conducive to learning, and sometimes in circumstances we couldn't imagine. Even with these things going on around them, they make it to school every day and have an insatiable love of learning. The smiles on their faces as they walk through my classroom door every morning is truly what makes me come back each day.
My Project
In this modern day world many students are used to just typing and relying on technology to do a lot of the "heavy lifting". I want to inspire my class to enjoy writing, physically writing in a writer's notebook or journal. Through this notebook I intend to have my students explore many different types of writing. We will work with poetry, narratives, expository, persuasive, and informative.
The art of physically writing is slowly being eroded by technology.
I want to inspire my students to write and let their creativity flow from pencil to paper. I want them to feel as passionate about their writing as I do.
With these materials, I can give all my students a journal to start down this path with me.
