Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year my students have shown a positive attitude towards school. They come to school with a very enthusiastic attitude. During class time they demonstrate a desire to learn more and practice their skills. My class is part of a Title I school that qualifies for free lunches. Many of my students have been re-designated into English language, however they continue receiving support to acquire the academic language needed to succeed in school.

As Second Language Learners, my students need more support and practice in reading and writing to acquire the necessary academic vocabulary that will facilitate their comprehension to answer math and language test questions designed for native English speakers.

My students will have more chances to succeed in standardized tests if they become more familiar with the format and the academic vocabulary used in those tests. The use of technology presents a challenge for our students because many of them not have computers or printers at home to complete the written assignments. Since the testing is done using computers or Ipads, my students are already at a disadvantage because of their lack of experience using them for testing or educational purposes.

My Project

Many students complain they have no access at home to research information needed for their projects, Sometimes they need images to illustrate their work. My students will benefit from the printer because they will be able to print research they have completed at home. They will see a hard copy of their essays. This final product will help them to practice how to present a good piece of writing, similar to the one they have to present in their answers in their tests. Printed work is part of the students' academic work. They need to be taught how to do it correctly by providing practice and materials. A printer will complete the cycle of work preparation and display.
