Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My thirty second graders are their own little undersea school of scholarly fish this year. (We have an ocean-themed classroom this year!) They are quite the catch! They range from far below grade level skills to one above level student. All of them are uniquely brilliant.
My magni-fish-ent second graders come from a proud Title 1 school in Baltimore, MD.
Many of my students struggle with buying classroom materials. I want this to be the year where all my students feel like they can really own something truly valuable: their writing skills.
My Project
I am requesting personal writing process folders, magnetic white boards for brainstorming, and special paper for drafting and publishing. The folders help the students keep their materials organized and their work focused--such important skills for later on in life! The magnetic boards allow students to utilize magnetic letters and draw pictures to express their pre-writing thoughts, and they fit right in the folder. The paper is lined to help guide students in their handwriting. These materials will make for great writing projects each month. The first project will be a narrative! (Stay tuned for opinion and informational writing.)
This project will make a difference because it will give my students tangible ownership and pride in their work.
Through the use of these materials, my scholars will become successful writers for life!
