My Students

My students are amazing! My kindergarten students walk in the classroom ready to learn. At flag assembly, our principal asks the students if they are ready to learn today. You immediately hear 27 five and six year-olds shout out, "Yes, we are!" This past school year was a little different, and we are looking forward to getting back into the classroom.

My students are very eager to learn, but will be faced with some new challenges this year: social distancing with 27 friends in a classroom, wearing masks, and adjusting to a new school.

Some of my students have special needs, are English Language Learners, and/or come from a low socioeconomic background with limited resources available. We are a Title I school, where many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support the family. Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning!

I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.

My Project

Everyday, our kindergartners work on writing and word work during our Daily Five time. This is a time when small reading groups are held, and the students work individually.

Every child should write daily, to practice and build their writing skills as well as develop their creativity.

Some need to practice letter formation, while others can focus on writing words. Children also enjoy writing their thoughts in a safe, journal type format. These Draw-Write journals are perfect for the kids. They are made with quality paper, allowing the children to write, erase, and draw.
