Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My class consists of a variety of students from different backgrounds and learning styles. Even though my students all learn differently, they are all excited to come to school and learn.

First grade is a year that children truly develop their awareness of academic growth.

They are also able to experience and learn from others who may not be exactly like them. I love the diversity in my room. Some students do not receive much support and school is their safe place.

My Project

Each year my first graders jump into writing. Teaching writing to first graders and watching them blossom is something I love dearly. The journals in this project will allow my children to write and illustrate their ideas throughout our year.

Writing is an essential part of the first grade year.

This project will put quality composition journals into the hands of my 6 and 7 year olds. Quality paper is essential to first grade writers because they press hard when they write and erase and cheap paper can tear easily. These journals have both a writing space and an illustration space.
