Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The secret of becoming a writer is to write, write, and keep on writing." Ken MacLead. Writing is such an important part of daily life. We write for fun, for school, for work, and for self-expression. If we cannot write, we are missing out on so much. This project will help students become writers.
My students are eager learners.
They range from grades K-3 and range in disabilities from mild to moderate, low and high incidence disabilities such as Learning Disabilities, Developmental Delay, Autism, and Speech Language Delay. My students are not able to express themselves through writing. They struggle with adding details, spelling of common words, spacing, sentence structure, and writing independently. Our school is located in a high poverty and high crime area, so most students do not have the materials and support at home to aid in their success at school. My goal is to provide them with resources that they enjoy and need so they can write independently and improve their writing skills to have a high quality of life.
My Project
I am requesting Sentence Building Learning Centers to help students master sentence structure. The Magnetic Words will develop skills in phonics, parts of speech, grammar, structure, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. The Writing Prompts Journals will give students daily writing prompts, help them get started with sentence stems & word banks, and give space for writing and drawing. I am also requesting a Build-A-Paragraph Flip Book. This will give students all the elements they need to write complete paragraphs one step at a time including topic, details, and conclusion. The Developing Writing Skills Magnetic Teaching Charts will help students organize their thoughts before they start writing and will help develop their skills in using graphic organizers, brainstorming, and adding details to their writing. All the resources requested will help students become writers using interesting materials they will enjoy.
These resources will help my students improve skills like sentence building, writing in complete sentences, adding details to writing, and neatness.
Writing is an essential part of life whether it is used for school, work, self-expression, or day-to-day functional activities. These resources will improve students' quality of life and will benefit current and future students. Thank you for considering our project.
