My Students

I teach at a school where nearly 90% of students qualify for free lunch within a large urban district. Although the school provides free breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, and weekend food, my students often come to school without basic supplies and our classrooms lack much of what is now considered standard in elementary school classrooms due to district underfunding.

Despite the basic inequities my 51 awesome 3rd Graders experience daily, they still come to school every day excited and ready to learn math.

My students deserve the same learning experience that other students in more affluent areas have access to on a daily basis.

My Project

Using dry erase markers can make even the most mundane practice problems seem fun! During the first half of the school year, my students adored being able to use their personal whiteboards to solve practice problems and provide answers. They loved it even more when I let them turn their desks into whiteboards so we could use less paper! Unfortunately, with 51 students using the markers nearly every day, we are quickly running out of working markers.

With a fresh supply of dry erase markers, my students can continue practicing their math skills on personal whiteboards and their desks for the rest of the school year.

With the cleaning supplies, we can make sure our whiteboards stay clean- and that our desks stay ready for when we do use paper!
