Last year my district started a new math program that allowed the students to learn math in an engaging, and challenging way. It created hands-on skills that will prepare them for real world problem solving. Every day students came to class excited and ready to learn! This year my second graders will be beginning a new reading program that will also offer a chance to grow and take chances.
My students look forward to new challenges!
Our school recently celebrated its 130th birthday!
How exciting! We are one of the oldest rural schools in Colorado. Our students are about 50% free or reduced price lunch and about 30% ELL (English Language Learners).
Each student comes to class with a growth mindset, ready to learn! Students focus on persevering and challenges to meet their own personal goals in order to grow both emotionally and academically.
My Project
Students need a place to park their thoughts! I will use the easel throughout the school day in all subject areas and in small group and whole group to teach as well as show student learning. The new math and reading programs require students show their thinking and problem solving skills. An easel is a perfect place for the class to work together.
Students learn best from both visual and cooperative learning !
If students are able to show their thinking they are able to discuss and work together to grow and learn. Visual learning is important for students to be able to retain information. My students love to "be the teacher" and show their thinking to others. An easel is a great way to do this!
