My Students

My students come into our classroom each day full of life, eager to learn, and determined to overcome any obstacles that come their way. You see, I teach a class for students with significant disabilities in Indiana. While only in third-fifth grade, my students are already some of the hardest working people that I know.

Despite the many challenges that they face, my students never give up.

Their resilience is incredible, and it is an absolute honor to know them.

My Project

The right technology can make the impossible possible when working with students with special needs. It is my goal, in providing each student with a LCD writing tablet, to utilize the flexibility of this technology to meet the unique communication and fine motor needs of each student in my classroom.

The fulfillment of this grant will provide the students in my classroom with a tool that can aide them in communicating everything from basic wants and needs to academic competence across settings and activities.

For example, some of my non-verbal students might use their tablet to copy environmental print to communicate their needs in the cafeteria. Alternatively, my students who are working on functional academics might use their tablet to generate ideas for their writing assignment.

It is my hope that ALL of my students will feel empowered to use writing with the intention of communicating!
