This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are 24 sweet faces that walk into my classroom daily. They are hilarious, bursting with energy, and ready to learn. We know that learning doesn't come easy, but when we work hard and together our goals are met easier. My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 40% of our students receiving free lunch. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are just as diverse in their academics. I am working to fund this project to help them become the leaders I know they are, and will be.
My Project
My students are in first grade and just beginning to learn basic addition and subtraction skills (up to 20). These whiteboards are wonderful as they allow students to use it as a reference to learn many strategies that will be taught. Right now students have hundreds grids but aren’t able to draw on them. With these whiteboards they will easily be able to visualize the math concepts being taught. Whether it’s a hundreds grid, number line, or ten frames, students will surely become more successful in math strategies. We are asking for 90 whiteboards so that every first grader at our elementary Sschool can be successful.
