My Students

I work in a 6th-8th grade school with the most amazing, diverse, and vibrant student body. So many of them are facing experiences that have made them grow up too fast and they often forget to be kids. As a counselor, my day is often helping 'my babies' address and overcome the baggage they bring in to the school.

My students are at the point in life where they are hurtling headfirst through change and they face it fearlessly.

They deserve access to everything the world has to offer and I want to give it to them!

My Project

I could sit here and give a narrative about how difficult the pandemic has been for kids, but you already know that. Instead, here's data- 61% of my students report that they don't believe they can do the most difficult work assigned. 52% of my students report that they don't feel like they belong at school.

53% of my students report that they don't have the skills necessary to manage their emotions.

These journals will be used with students who need support with coping strategies and anger management as part of a small group that allows them to write, process, and then actively destroy something in a way that is appropriate and healthy.
