My Project

My first graders are building reading stamina and increasing their fluency skills. I am requesting books for my classroom library because my students are on FIRE with their reading skills. My students have truly enjoyed learning to love reading and are in need of a variety of books on their level. I chose titles and authors that the students have been excited and want to read. I have bought several books for our library myself and my students get over the moon thrilled when we open the boxes, they just can't wait to start reading the new ones, so I know they will be overjoyed to get these new books. These books will be used for independent reading time, small group, and whole group reading time.

I have selected several non fiction books about light and sound, seasons, and weather for our science lessons.

I selected some titles, like community helpers, to help with our social studies and writing projects. I chose books about courage, honesty, friendship, and kindness to help teach CCSS 1.ME.1.1 and 1.PCE.1.3 and promote mental and emotional health.

I have put on my list ten frames to help with math skills and gain deeper understanding of number sense. I engage my students with hands-on activities and I have folders and clipboards on the list to help organize our center manipulatives.
