Wouldn't It Be Cool To Film At Your School!

My students need two hand held video cameras to film their projects and labs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Wouldn't it be cool to film at your school, projects and reports as a lab tool. Just imagine the magic the students can create, filming their group work as they collaborate. Multigenre and crossover subject themes, let my students realize the potential of their dreams.

My students live in a high poverty area of New York.

My student population, range in ability from ELLS (English Language Learners) and Resource Room to the Gifted & Talented. Some of my students are new to this country and speak little English. On the other side of the spectrum, I teach Gifted and Talented students who need constant challenges to express their creativity. All my students need the opportunity to compete with their peers from all over the country. Technology is ever changing and I therefore want to see my students succeed in the future by keeping them current in the ability to learn in different manners.

My Project

For the past few years, I have assigned reports which require the student to create a lab report and present it in an original format. As an example, I have had students perform puppet shows, publish newspapers, and rap songs. Last year, I had a student ask if he could use his cell phone to film his group's trial results. He videoed the experiment, went home and edited it with titles. When he presented it to the class, we all enjoyed his work. That got me thinking "Why can't every student film their experiment if they want to?" I am requesting two Flip videorecorders that will be used in my science classes for the approximately 120 students I see every day. Having the capability to use technology in the classroom will allow my students to present their work at a higher level of competency rather than just using a pencil and lined paper.

My students live in an age of digital information, Facebook, and Youtube.

It is hard to consider that not all students are equally educated in the use of everyday technology. We take for granted filming current events with machines that fit in the palm of our hands. My students would appreciate the donation of the video recorder equipment which could allow them to express themselves in a whole new way. This new outlet could give them the direction they need to share their visions with others.
