This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the big units for fifth grade is looking at an ecosystem. One piece of an ecosystem are decomposers. Though it is just one piece of the system, they can be vital to adding nutrients to the soil.

In the unit the students look at the organisms in a certain ecosystem and determine why they are not thriving.

One way to do this is to investigate the benefits of worms. With the kit, we can test different aspects of this. Next we can look at growing plants through hydroponics and comparing that to plants naturally and those having the benefits of earthworms. Seeing which grow quicker and produces more. Sadly, we can use those plants to show the effect of eliminating certain things such as nutrients, water, air, or sunlight.
