This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to school eager to learn each day. Each student brings their own uniqueness of diversity and qualities. They bring high energy to the classroom and love hands-on, active, and engaging learning. My classroom is centered with a variety of opportunities for students to learn through problem based learning. Students at our school are from low income homes with limited learning experiences. They come each day ready to face new challenges and try new things that will help them grow both personally and academically.
My Project
Our classroom is in need of a rug! Learning in our class can be maximized with a new carpet to connect, discuss, and share our learning. My students need a warm, inviting, and comfortable place for our morning meetings, Reader's and Writer's workshop, read alouds, and opportunities to share our learning. By simply adding a flexible seating rug, students will be able to engage in our mini lesson, turn and talk partners, and have meaningful conversations. This type of flexible seating with reading and writing as a focus will give my students choice and power over where they learn and work.
