Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Students in my 8th grade classroom sit at old desks that have the chair and smaller work area connected by bars. They cannot adjust the distance from the seat to the desk and can only get in one side. This is not conducive to the many ways that they need to interact with the material and with others in the classroom.

In a social studies classroom, students need to be able to easily collaborate in partners and groups to discuss and debate concepts and to create maps, posters, and graphs.

These desks will provide the adaptability that is not currently available with the old heavy desks that are currently in my classroom. It will provide comfortable seating for students who are larger as in 8th grade many are the size of adults.
