Working Out While Working Hard
My students need a class set of 30 exercise balls to sit on in the classroom
Have you ever seen an invention/idea and immediately thought "Why didn't I THINK OF THAT?" That is what happened when I walked into a colleague's classroom, and I am trying to follow suit. Kids need to be sitting on yoga balls in the classroom!
I teach the most wonderful group of second and third graders.
I teach in a school of 350 students in an urban setting. Over 75% of the students in my classroom receive free lunch, which speaks to their families' abilities to contribute to new resources/purchases for the classroom. What they lack in financial abilities they more than make up for in enthusiasm for learning.
With a class set of yoga balls, I want to totally transform my classroom. Your typical chairs will be replaced with a yoga ball for each student at his/her desk. A respected colleague of mine made this happen in her room, and her KINDERGARTNERS have been more focused, attended to their work for longer, and are generally more excited to be in class. I desperately want this for my classroom! I won't have to politely ask students to stop tipping in their chairs ever again!
Donations to this project will make a difference in my classroom, as my students will be more focused, in tune with their bodies, and they will even get a bit stronger after a year of sitting on a yoga ball in class!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
