Help me give my students flexible seating, including a futon for comfortable reading, surf desks, a rug for a place to gather, and new ball chairs that won't roll away.
My students this year are an amazing and unique group of learners. They are incredibly curious about the world around them and the way things work. We work in our classroom to not only touch on all of the basics we need to know, but to extend our knowledge into real-world scenarios and situations.
We are not a normal group of third graders in a normal classroom!
This year, my students have been learning the importance of thinking about themselves and their learning, a tough concept when you are 8! However, they have been doing a fantastic job of learning to make the best choices for them, from choosing the seat that helps them work best to choosing if they want to listen to music while they work to help them focus.
My Project
My students need flexible seating choices to help them become even better learners. As 8 and 9 year old students, they have a lot of energy, and do not always work best in a simple desk and chair. By giving them choices in where they sit, they are learning how they work best.
These flexible seating choices would make a world of difference for these students.
We are looking for a futon to put in our reading corner to give them a cozy place to develop a love of reading. We need more surf desks for students who prefer to work on the floor or in the hallway, but still need a hard surface to write on. We need new exercise balls that stay put and do not roll all over the floor of the classroom. We need kick bands for students to get out their nervous energy. We need rugs in the classroom so that we have a comfortable place to gather together while we work whole group. We need go anywhere chairs for students to sit at our low table comfortably and with better posture. We need under desk pedal machines to help keep our blood flowing and get the oxygen pumping to our brains while we work.
