Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our small all-girls high school focuses on academics, which is great, but we do not have the capacity to offer many of the things that bigger schools can offer. One of the things girls continually ask for is a work out club or some type of physical activity. We know that physical activity has many positive benefits and it would be nice to be able to offer to our girls. Most of our students are first generation college bound girls.
My Project
Our students are so focused on academics and our school does not offer much in terms of physical activity. We do not have a physical education classes, a gym, track, etc. If we can obtain small equipment like jump ropes, ab mats, kettle bells, etc. the girls can still get a good workout and have some physical activity in their day. My goal is to start with small equipment and build from there. We would rotate students in and out, for example...some students can use the equipment Monday and Wednesday and the other group Tuesday and Thursday. I hope that this project will show there is a need for this at the school and therefore get funding for a bigger project through the district/agency.
