My Project

Today in time, kids are expected to come to school and work from bell to bell. Work time is not supposed to be compromised. My students get a break at lunch time and teacher directed PE time. However, for 5th graders, just running around the playground is never enough. The younger students normally have priority over the playground and the older students are left to their devices. But, what are those devices when the regular classroom teacher takes them outside, or even when they are stuck inside. In our area, there is a guarantee that students will have about 40 days of indoor recess.

As the teacher, I need to find and provide games, activities, and equipment that my students deem as fun for when we are either indoors or outdoors.

That is why I am asking for equipment that my students can pack up and take outside to start a game of flag football, volleyball, or kickball. Also, if my students don't feel up for being athletic they can play card games or show their artistic side with art. Most importantly, they are developing an outlet to release the stress that has built up from academic stress. Also, students will learn and practice working together to have fun outside of the academic learning time. These relationships built during fun times will carry over to the classroom and incorporate more trust to foster collaboration with creativity and learning.
