Help me give my students whiteboard tables so they can creatively collaborate with classmates.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My third grade math students are defying the odds in Baltimore. They are energetic, enthusiastic learners who can't wait to be introduced to the daily topics and tasks with which they'll get to grapple.
Each day brings new opportunities for hands-on problem solving, chances to build interpersonal skills, and lots of "lightbulb" moments for my students.
Therefore, our space is often full of the happy noises associated with team work, manipulative use, and math conversations.
It's so important to me to cultivate the natural curiosity of my students, in order to help them develop critical thinking skills and a solid foundation of mathematical awareness so they can continue to buck the statistical trends as they progress through an impoverished urban public school system. They deserve the chance to prove themselves to the world!
Kids need a place to sit, a place to work, a place to gather with thought partners. This sounds like a given, but my math classroom has a shortage of furniture that's safe and appropriate for 3rd graders. Many of the tables we have are warped and wobbly; some are duct taped together to keep legs from falling off or students' fingers from getting pinched. Last year, DonorsChoose and some generous helpers like you enabled us get a few new tables, and now I'm hoping to replace the remaining broken ones so that all of my students have a great spot to work.
Whiteboard tables are perfect for our math classroom, as students will be able to get creative with problem solving and easily collaborate with others in an engaging way.
Each of these tables will seat 2 students, but support up to 4 during group work. They are also able to be flexibly configured to fit the needs of any math activity! The whiteboard markers I've requested will allow my students to quickly let their math thinking flow as they sit at their new tables.
I would very much appreciate your assistance in outfitting my classroom in a way that will help ensure student success. Thanks for considering this project!
