I believe that students should have a classroom that is attractive, colorful and inviting! Students should be proud of their learning environment. My goal is for students to feel at home when they enter our classroom. They deserve it!
I am a first grade teacher at a Title 1, low income school where all students receive free/reduced lunch.
Though my students come into my classroom with different experiences outside of school, they all have one thing in common- they LOVE to learn!
My Project
Writing is that time of day when I wish I could be as animated and exciting as the #1 selling video game or the top film in the box office. Unfortunately, grammar and writing aren't quite that entertaining. The project includes hands-on sentence construction so that students will become familiar with sentences that contain a who, what, when...etc. It is difficult to guide students to independently construct sentences that are longer than 3 or 4 words. The manipulative sentence creator will give them a great visual as to how they can construct meaningful sentences or revise their rough draft sentences to be more informative.
I am looking for ways to liven up this particular part of our literacy block and get the kids excited about the journey of writing.
Visuals are key with first graders, and these materials will allow students to have just that- and also hands on experience with grammar concepts. The writing paper has slightly raised handwriting lines to reinforce tall vs. short letter formation. I also included handwriting chart paper so that I can explicitly model handwriting student writing prompts and narratives. The dry erase sleeves will make a quick and efficient center activity for students to practice letter formation using dry erase markers.
Please help me turn the writing woes into a room of wondrous writers!
