"The textbook...again?!" is what my students often say during language arts/reading time in my classroom. My students are desperate for new, fun, exciting activities that motivate them to want to learn! They want to succeed, and need engaging materials to do so.
My students are 5th-8th grade special education students with a wide range of learning and behavioral disabilities.
Most of them have emotional/social needs as well as challenges with academic work. Each student has different strengths and weaknesses, and individual learning styles that are unique to them. All of my students are reading below grade level, and their disabilities make it difficult for them to keep up with their assignments.
They live in Chicago, Illinois and attend a public school where the majority of students are part of a free/reduced lunch program and below the poverty line.
My Project
I have requested vocabulary centers, build-a-word activities, and sentence-building activities that will challenge my students to apply their literacy and language skills. If my project is funded, my students will be given the opportunity to engage in literacy activities that are new and exciting! The materials I have requested will help reinforce sight word skills that my students struggle with, and also help them build word knowledge and vocabulary skills. Reading is a vital part of succeeding in today's society, and my students deserve the chance to learn as much as they can at school to help them with their reading skills. Their lives will be changed for the better if they are able to master their sight words.
Donations to this request will help provide my students with better opportunities to learn sight word and reading skills that are crucial.
They need the basic knowledge of sight words in order to advance their reading skills further, and your donations to this project can help them do so! Your donations are greatly appreciated-by myself and by my students. My students want to learn to read, and want to succeed-please help them do so!
