The ability to imagine and create is a natural gift that needs to be nurtured. "Everything that is real was imagined first" is a line from The Velveteen Rabbit. In a world of pre-packaged fun, children need to be encouraged and given opportunities to explore, dream and create.
Our school is above 90% free and reduced lunch.
While our students are primarily inner city project kids, they have dreams well beyond their neighborhood. Our school encourages children to dream big and to start preparing for their futures now. Education is their ticket out of poverty.
When I first saw these amazing little robots, I knew that we needed Dot and Dash to take our Creation Station to the next level. These little robots are hands-on learning tools that enhance children's nature to be creative problem solvers. The children and I will learn to use code to breathe life into our creation projects in a real-world, hands-on way. My students deserve the opportunity to understand programming concepts and further develop their collaboration and communication abilities.
The majority of my students are project kids who would like nothing more than a chance to better their lives.
Currently our Creation Station has Legos, K'nex and YOXO to engage the natural ability of children to explore and create. I want to take this further into the arena of robotics and computer programming. Dot and Dash will not only excite and amaze my children but open up a world of possibilities to children who currently have a very limited view of their potential.
