My students come from a variety of different backgrounds; some examples of this are low-income families, English as a Second Language and a variety of different education levels. They are amazing students who are so eager to learn but there are always challenges when it comes to their learning. For most of my students I am their first "official" teacher in public education. They did not attend any form of pre-school. They are pushed every day to reach their highest potential and they are trying their hardest to meet those standards.
My students are always looking for ways to enhance their own learning and challenging themselves to make things harder.
They love to work with their hands and listen to stories! They really are an amazing group! Some of their backgrounds and home lives do not allow them to have all of the resources that they need to be successful, so at school we try our hardest to get them everything they need.
My Project
The resources that we are asking for are wobble chairs to help our bodies stay safe and focused on our learning. The first wobble chair will be mainly in a small group setting so that a student in each reading group will be able to focus a little bit better. I have about 4 groups of 4 kids and in each group there is one student that has a hard time focusing. When the wobble chair is not being used at small group then one of my students will be able to use it to focus on their independent work.
The TIMEs for kids will be used whole group for them to have some real world news embedded into our lessons.
This will be a great way for them to stay informed about the world around them in an educational way. I love bringing up news articles that they will be able to relate to but this will allow them to share with their friends and family what they are learning about too.
The second set of wobble chairs will be used a sensory safe space. The majority of my students have a need for a sensory outlet, and they do not always have a safe or calm way of expressing that need. With the use of these chairs they will be able to get the sensory release that they need while still learning.
