Wobbling to Activate Brain Power!

My students need stability cushions for those times when they feel the need to move but also need to focus. These cushions can be inflated to fit individual needs depending upon the chosen seat.

My Students

My classes are diverse, fun, active groups of 24 students each. We are a growing Title I school with more than 75% of our 715 students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Our 5th grade students move between teachers for different subjects so this project will impact up to 60 students!

Many of my students exhibit a great need for the opportunity to move while working in class.

I have put great effort into making a safe and comfortable space with flexible seating. Our physical space includes both tall and short tables, stools, floor cushions, and a "living room" area with sofa, rug and 3 round chairs arranged in a square. Even with these options for choosing a "perfect fit" workspace each day, some students need a bit more. I'm asking for help to purchase 10 stability cushions that can be used as needed to help students wobble while they work.

My Project

I have several students with diagnosed ADD and 504 plans that allow for accommodations to meet individual needs. Providing a stability cushion for smaller movements and core balancing will help those students remain in their space while completing work.

These cushions can be used anywhere in our flexible seating space and will be used by multiple students each day.

As I work to plan engaging activities for students, I've learned that considering their unique physical needs is as important as learning objectives. We appreciate your help in improving our learning space to accommodate those who need to wiggle and wobble!
