My Project

My first grade students are energetic, creative, and eager to learn, but many of them struggle to sit still for long periods of time. By providing wobble seats in our classroom, I will create a flexible seating environment that allows students to move safely while staying engaged in their learning. These seats will support self-regulation, increase focus, and help students take ownership of their learning space.

Wobble seats will give my students a simple but powerful tool to channel their energy into productive learning.

When students are comfortable and able to move, they are better able to listen, participate in discussions, and complete their academic tasks with confidence.

I teach a group of bright, curious first graders at an arts-infused, Title I school in the Charleston, South Carolina area. Many of my students come from diverse backgrounds and face challenges that can impact their ability to focus and self-regulate in a traditional classroom setting.

My classroom is a place where creativity, movement, and exploration are encouraged. My students thrive when learning is hands-on and interactive. However, for some students, sitting in a standard chair can make it difficult to concentrate, especially during reading, writing, and math lessons. These wobble seats will give them the movement they need while still maintaining a structured and supportive learning environment.

First graders are naturally active learners. They learn best when their bodies and minds are both engaged. In a traditional classroom, students are often expected to sit still for extended periods of time, which can be especially challenging for young learners, students with sensory needs, and those who benefit from movement to stay focused.
