Though being a very diverse group of students, they all like to explore and discover new things.
Our school has a wide range of academic strengths and needs.
We all learn to work together on a daily basis and become a classroom community. Getting along and resolving conflicts is a goal we strive for each and every day. My students strive to do, and be, their personal best each day.
My Project
I hope to give the students a welcoming, comfortable environment for learning since my classroom is their home away from home and the place of most stability for some. I welcome every child with a smile and a hope for a great day. Some like to sit in a chair, at a table or desk, while others prefer to stand, rock, bounce, or even sit on the floor! The wobble stools will give the students more mobility and add to their selection of seating to empower their brains! These choices will encourage my students to make a choice that will maximize their learning for the day.
Problem Solvers now = Problem Solvers later
If student motivation and higher engagement is truly the desired endgame, then we as teachers must adapt right along with our students in our classrooms. The students we share our classrooms with don't know life without constant connectivity and wi-fi. Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, and ever-changing world full of choices. How can we expect our students to solve problems and make choices independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them? Our classroom environments should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day. I noticed students standing at their desks and frequently asking if they were allowed to work on the floor. In an attempt to re-focus my students, I decided to try implementing flexible seating. The purpose of flexible seating is to create various opportunities for students to work in an environment they can be most successful and productive in.
