My Students

I teach in an elementary school in a coastal community in southeastern North Carolina that is experiencing rapid growth. I serve a high number of low-income and military families. Our classroom was created two weeks into school due to high class sizes so I am trying to get funded for flexible seating options.

My third grade students are energetic and would highly benefit from being able to "wobble" while they work!

I want to provide my students flexible seating options during our small group time. We have tried traditional seats, and I also purchased stools. We have had several kids fall off the stools because they like to rock on them!

My Project

In a classroom full of energetic third grade children, I am wanting to incorporate flexible seating into my classroom. I want to encourage student motivation and higher engagement in the learning process. I believe wobble chairs would be the perfect start! The chairs would allow children to have the freedom to wiggle and move while working and learning. Studies suggest more on task behavior when children are given physical activity opportunities. Students will be able to focus on their learning while releasing energy at the same time! These chairs would enable them to stay at their work station while wiggling and listening.
