Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low income/high poverty school district in a therapeutic, alternative setting. We currently have a hybrid schedule due to COVID-19. They are facing the same anxieties, and effects of this challenging year as other students, but with the additional burden of higher emotional and/or academic needs. Even with these challenges, our students have stayed positive, energetic, and flexible as they are getting used to a hybrid, mostly online model of learning.
My Project
A Wobble seat in each of our classrooms will allow students to learn during a COVID-19 environment since moving around class is much more restricted. A student that needs extra movement will have the choice to use a wobble seat and still be safely socially distancing from peers and staff. This is especially essential for some of our students with sensory needs.
When students can make good choices about sitting in their area, they are more engaged, and get more work completed, all while moving on a Wobble seat.
My students can be less disruptive to their peers when they are given a seat choice. These seats will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! They are lightweight and can be easily used to swap out for a more traditional chair and are very easy to keep clean!
