Everything I Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten. You may have heard that title before, but in many ways it holds true. My kindergartners are sponges. They learn through experiences. They see the world for what it is and come to school each day with bright eyes, eager to soak up more knowledge.
My students deserve the latest and greatest resources; they are the future.
Our school is located in rural Minnesota. We are a Title I school and have a high percentage of free and reduced lunch population. Many of our students qualify for free and reduced lunches and receive a backpack sent home on Fridays to keep them nourished during the weekend. Many families also receive special "baskets" at Thanksgiving and Christmas. These baskets provide food and much needed supplies that many of our families can't afford.
My students are hard workers and love learning. They deserve so much that I alone cannot provide them. My students are "my kids." I have a special place in my heart for all of my students, past, present and my future kinders.
My Project
My students need options for seating to improve their academic success, four Wobble Chairs and four Comfy Floor Seats. Traditional classrooms contain chairs and tables that do not support the diverse learners' opportunity to be seated where they learn best. Many students would benefit from burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increasing motivation and engagement, creating better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.
Physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
These wobble stools and comfy chairs will help to offer seating options and will help students take responsibly for their learning by understanding how they learn best.
Best practice says that by allowing seating choice, kids will improve their focus and stamina which leads into optimal learning.
