I teach fifth grade at a public school that is an accredited International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP)School. My students are thoughtful inquirers who love to explore, learn, and showcase their learning in creative ways.
My goal, as their teacher, is to create a safe learning environment where students are comfortable and feel at home.
It is my belief that in this type of environment students are more engaged and likely to take academic risks; such as asking questions and contributing to discussions.
Traditional classroom seating in rows can be isolating for students. My students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their classroom environment. Flexible seating allows my students to choose if they want to work alone, with a partner, or in a small group. These wobble chairs are also easy to move which allows students to change their location and positions as they need too.
These specific wobble chairs also allow students to move continuously without being distracting which will be extremely beneficial for my students with learning difficulties, such as ADHD.
They can stimulate their sense of touch and will help them to bounce, twist, and move without distracting others.
