Students learn best through authentic learning experiences. These virtual reality teaching tools will help students travel to throughout the United States, explore life under the sea, investigate outer space, climb Mount Rushmore and much more directly from their classroom! In these virtual field trips, the students become explorers and the teachers become field trip guides. Teachers and students can scroll through or search through a variety of "sets" depending on the topics they are studying in class. If teachers want to showcase something specific they can show them by clicking on identified "targets" in each "set." By going on these virtual field trips, students will gain the background knowledge necessary to demonstrate comprehension of content. Virtual Reality is very popular amongst my fifth grade students. I would love to motivate them by building upon their interests and integrating 21st century skills throughout our content areas. I can only imagine how going on these field trips would inspire authentic wonderings for future provocations, inspire them to read nonfiction, help them to acquire content related vocabulary, and shape them into global citizens.
