This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember being confined to a chair during school and not being able to move because you might distract other students? What if there was a way students could get their wiggles out and not distract anyone?
My school is located in Spartanburg, SC.
We are a priority school and a majority of our students are living in poverty. A lot of our students deal with more problems in one school year than we do in an entire lifetime. These students deserve the very best because every day they put all of their struggles aside and come to school to learn and be successful.
My Project
My students will use the wobble chairs during reading groups each day. During workshops, students are in different parts of the room working on assigned activities. I also have a group of students with me at the reading table. Reading groups last about 30 minutes and during that time, students at the table are confined to their chairs. Wobble chairs will take the place of their regular chairs so they are able to wiggle while in reading groups.
First graders have a lot of energy!
Wobble chairs will allow students to get some of their wiggles out. The chairs move so while students are sitting on them, they are able to wiggle without distracting other students. Students will be able to sit at the reading table during their reading group meeting time and give more attention and focus to their reading.
