My Project

I am so lucky to have an amazing group of 5th grade students this year! They are always eager to jump in and try new things. This year, we have been very excited about the Iditarod in Alaska, and would love to incorporate this into a novel study!

One of my favorite school memories as a child was learning about sled dogs and the Iditarod race.

Into adulthood, those experiences stuck with me. I would love to give my students some of those same fun and exciting memories!

One of my teammates is lucky enough to even travel to the Iditarod this year, and we are so excited to keep in contact with her and see pictures from the real race. Likewise, we are bringing in sled dogs for the kids to meet and learn more about their skills. I am requesting copies of Woodsong by Gary Paulson to read during our sled dog novel study! Being able to read Woodsong beforehand would make this experience even better.
