There is nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment! My second graders have been working hard this year, and are becoming such serious writers, that they are starting to have this feeling frequently! They just need the right tools to help them along the way.
I teach a brilliant group of twenty-four second graders.
Each day they inspire me to do better by them. I constantly look for new ways to enrich and push their learning. While most of them live in high crime, low income neighborhoods, their outlook on life and learning is the brightest I've ever seen. My students are eager to push themselves; they don't shy away from hard work, and they are learning to never give up. My goal is to not only give them the tools to be successful in school, but to prepare them for the ever changing world we live in.
My second graders love to write! We write during math, during reading, social studies, and of course during writing time. Our goal is to write half a page to a full page each day in our Writers' Notebooks. To do this however, we need strong pencils and erasers! I have requested pencils and erasers for summer school and for the upcoming year. We will use the straw dispensers as pencil dispensers to keep our pencils organized! Turning straw dispensers into pencil dispensers will allow for easy pencil management. Quality pencils and erasers will ensure that my students will always have the tools they need to show their thinking. Having these tools will also allow me to spend less time sharpening and more time teaching. Writing in my classroom happens every day and in every subject. Without pencils and good erasers, writing would be impossible!
Studies show that students learning to write need the drag of a pencil to develop their fine motor skills.
This is just one of the many reasons why writing in pencil is so important during early elementary school. Please help me provide these resources for my students!
