Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a NASA Explorer school focusing on math, science, and technology. It is a Title I school with most of our students receiving free or reduced-price meals. Our students are truly diverse from a variety of cultures. There are 6 English learners and many others who also need continuous language support in my class. The students are eager to learn and take pride in their work.
Reading a book or listening to a read-aloud can take my students to faraway places, back in historical times, or continue exploring the world around us.
I want my students to feel the excitement in learning through the world of books, especially during this difficult time.
Reading is the key to access the curriculum. If a student cannot comprehend what they are reading, they will struggle in becoming successful in all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Giving students access to books that support their individual interests and reading levels helps to build their future.
My Project
My goal is to expand my classroom library to allow access to children’s literature with global themes and to inspire my students to develop a lifelong love of reading. We will use these stories in our classrooms to support global competence and connect with others in our communities.
New books introduced to the classroom library at all levels would encourage my students to keep reading.
Watching my students grow in confidence and English skills through their own motivation and hard work is immensely rewarding. An updated, multilevel classroom library is so important to student success. It keeps all students engaged, builds their confidence in reading, and inspires them to keep an open mind and achieve their personal best to help our world become a better place.
