With Decodable Readers We Can Conquer!

Help me give my students S.P.I.R.E decodable Readers so that my strugglers have the opportunity to practice reading text that incorporates words that are consistent with the letter sound relationship that have been taught to them.

My Students

I teach in a public 2nd grade classroom where my students love to learn. They work hard and have a desire to become the best they can.

They are are inquisitive, creative and compassionate.

I have never had a class so supportive of each other as this class. They are each others best cheerleaders.

Due to Covid-19, this group has suffered mainly because it hit them in kindergarten and first grade when they are learning many valuable skills in reading.

My Project

These Decodable Readers will be used in small groups where we will effectively bridge learning from decoding to reading comprehension to oral fluency. These phonics skills will help increase reading practice and build each students confidence and therefore build reading success.

We will practice our decoding skills instead of relying on pictures or guessing.

We will also expand our vocabulary which will help us become better readers. Learning these explicitly taught phonics skills will also help us become better writers as we move from a single grapheme to words and eventually sentences.

Being able to use Decodable texts will help my students become fluent and independent readers.
