This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students rise to their learning goal each day because they have learned to believe in themselves, one another and our classroom family. I am a Kindergarten teacher at a high poverty Title I school. Many of my students come from hardships. Many get ready for the day on their own, get themselves to school as well as siblings. Despite having to take on adult roles, when each student enters my room he/she becomes a kid again. They thrive through talk and discussion, absorb knowledge through read alouds, celebrate one another in math, writing, and everyday life. My students rise to the standards I give from them. They rise higher than society many have initially felt they could. Your donations to my classroom will remind them of the endless power and possibilities they have with an education.
My Project
With the sponsorship from Donors like you, your generosity will help fulfill one of the basic needs many of my students have on a daily basis. . . hunger.
Students come to school daily with empty stomachs.
Although breakfast and lunch are provide my students often need something midday or before dismissal to continue to thrive in the classroom; and in some cases sustain them until the next school day.
With snacks like crackers and cookies, students will be able to focus on learning, play, growing, and developing. They will be able to enjoy school instead of worrying about when their next meal may come.
