This year, retelling stories and reading comprehension were difficult for our students. It was the lowest it has ever been in our classroom. Once we opened the boxes and the students saw the puppets, stem boxes and finger puppets, they were so excited and hooked!\r\n\r\nThese materials helped our students gain the confidence and love to retell fairy tale stories. Retelling stories helps build vocabulary, builds reading comprehension and writing skills. This will help set them up for success in their future literacy endeavors. \r\nYour contribution assisted us in putting interactive materials into the hands of our little learners to excite and ignite their curiosity and learning! The leveled readers provide an opportunity for our students to learn how to read at their own pace, whether it is learning the concepts about print (how books work) or learning high frequency words that will help them be successful in Kindergarten. These books are very simple where there is little text and the picture heavily supports the words. We wanted to provide the right books for our students to gain these skills and help encourage the LOVE of reading.\r\n\r\nThe workbooks that we gave to our students will provide them with extra practice and keep their skills fresh over the summer in both math and literacy. This simple foundation of skills will help them be more successful in Kindergarten and foster a love of learning.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness and generosity, we were able to give our students leveled readers (fiction and non-fiction), workbooks and the families laundry soap. It was so fun to watch our students open up their gifts and to see their faces light up and jumping up and down with excitement. \"I have books!\" Our families were so grateful to receive the laundry soap. One family said, \"I can now do my laundry, I don't have to wait until next week when I get paid!\" Another family said, \"I can't believe I have laundry soap, now I don't have to spend my money on it. Thank you!\" Words can not express how rewarding your donation was to give the impact they will have on our students and families.
