This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each morning I arrive to school smiling, excited, anxious and ready to give my students my very best. I work hard to ensure my students are greeted with a smile to start their day off in a positive way. My goal as a teacher is to ensure that my students are learning at high levels.
I teach at a brand new school.
The students I teach come from high poverty areas where the majority of the time the parents may have not completed their education, single parent homes, siblings taking care of younger siblings, or grandparents taking care of grandchildren. During the school day may be the only time my students are exposed to anything educational. Although these students may have disadvantages compared to other children their age, seeing the students' faces everyday is a joy to my eyes.
My Project
We have a uniform policy at our school so that all scholars can have an appearance of equality. Unfortunately, some parents cannot afford multiple sets of uniforms and in some cases cannot afford any. Therefore, we have many scholars who come to school in dirty clothes. In the winter months many have dirty coats. Also, when our scholars have accidents, parents are not always reachable due to no working phone numbers or their working hours and location is unreachable. In the interest of providing the scholars with an optimal learning environment, we find that the school must meet some of the basic needs that may not be met at home.
A clothes closet at our school will be very beneficial of lightly used and new clothes as well as underclothes, shoes and socks.
With a washer and dryer we can keep our clothes closet stocked with clean uniforms and help our students to feel good about their appearance.
