This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Scholars at the campus are creative, inquisitive, and willing to learn. About 80% of our campus scholars are economically disadvantaged. However, this does not disrupt their resiliency and desire to excel in their educational endeavors. They have mostly adapted smoothly from virtual learning but as scholars return to campus it is even more obvious the need for challenging and engaging activities. Scholars have been learning independently and from a screen for too long. We are both eager to start experimenting and trying new activities.

My Project

Imagine yourself sitting in a classroom with colorful posters, signs, and authentically created work on display for you to look around at. While we hope most students are paying attention, a lot of the time the mind starts to drift and wander. It is reasonable for the mind to wander but maybe they can focus on a poster they created or a sign they or their peers made about a topic being covered in class. If I surround them with key vocabulary, science content, and interesting images then hopefully they will remember and understand the subject being taught a bit better. The Cricut machine will give students access to create their own designs.
