These are unprecedented times. Never did I imagine that when my students and I said goodbye in March it would mean that it was our last day in the classroom. However, the year is not over yet!
My students and I have embarked on the distance learning journey!
We are actively engaged in all sorts of different online platforms and learning new things. Distance learning brought many challenges for me. These challenges range from refining my online teaching skills by holding Zoom meetings to going over the new material. I am amazed by their level of engagement and participation, and families' willingness to try new things.
My fourth graders are bright and enthusiastic students with different learning styles and needs. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. My students attend a Title One school in East Los Angeles, California. My class is comprised of English Language Learners and GATE students, as well as students with special needs. All of my students participate in the free lunch program.
The AirPods will greatly enhance my teaching experience for my fourth graders when we hold Live Google Meet sessions or Zoom sessions. The AirPods will allow me to communicate with my students no matter where I am. I will be able to hear and speak with them more effectively! Communicating virtually has become critical and important to my fourth graders' social and emotional well being!
My fourth graders deserve the best virtual education I can possibly provide!
While my students were fortunate enough to be able to check out a Chromebook through our district, it is only one of the missing pieces. They are also missing the in-person support of myself and their peers during these difficult times.
