This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are young boys and girls who live in the most dangerous city in the U.S. as well as being labeled with one of the highest poverty rates. They struggle daily in many ways to come to school, but once they arrive they are ready to go. We have breakfast together, and then we are off on our learning adventure for the day. My students come to school to learn. They have plans for college, and to reach those goals, we push them every day to overcome the struggles they may face.
My Project
As the weather turns colder in NJ, my students will be lacking in warm clothes and enough food to stay focused. I want them to be prepared to go outside and get fresh air as they interact with their classmates. Hunger is a daily concern with my student population. I would like to provide healthy snacks when they need a boost of energy to stay focused. Having the bounce bands and movable seating will also help them concentrate when they can't sit still or need a change of seating from their desk. I gave them books today and I can't wait to see them in different spots around the room reading their favorite book! I have also noticed their love of coloring. My students use this as a brain break to be creative and calm. All of these items will give so much support to our daily routines in the classroom!
